Welcome to BourneAroma! Please take time to read my website to decide whether this is the best choice for your aromatherapy in York. I hope you will find out more about me and understand some of my passion for plants and how we as humans can use the power of plants for our own good.

Aromatherapy is used to calm, uplift, de-stress and invigorate, and in this way, helps the body to help itself, to regain health and wellbeing.

Aromatherapy massage is a multisensory experience, involving touch, sound as well as wonderful smell of essential oils to facilitate a deep state of relaxation. The body responds to touch and the mind associates certain aromas with specific emotions and memories, and both these aspects combined can induce deep relaxation and a feeling of well-being.

The use of essential oils specifically blended to suit the client’s needs is an important part of the process: essential oils come from plants, they are completely natural, and have a range of powerful properties. The qualified aromatherapist is trained to understand which oils will be suited to help each person, and how to blend them to best effect.

Aromatherapy is holistic: this means that it approaches the client as a whole person, not just the part that may be hurting, and finds a blend of essential oils and a treatment approach that is unique to the person’s needs, including the spiritual, emotional, mental as well as physical aspects of their health, because they are so interrelated.

It is a complementary therapy, which means it can be used alongside conventional medicine, and it is gaining recognition in medical practice. It cannotcure illnesses as such, but it can change the way you cope with it, and by reducing stress it can help the healing process. The practising aromatherapist must be knowledgeable about the possible effects of essential oils with different medical conditions, and use them with great care, and with the correct dosage. Aromatherapists may belong to a recognized professional body, such  the one I belong to: IFPA (International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists), which regulates qualifications, safety standards and continuing professional development. However, this is not a legal requirement to practice, so be sure to check your aromatherapist’s qualifications.

I qualified with the Yorkshire School of natural healing in September 2014, with a distinction.

I completed additional training in  Aromatherapy for Pregnancy with the Penny Price Academy of Aromatherapy  in 2016.

“I felt the whole experience was a two way process. It was good to be given different options for oils and then talk through the benefits of combinations. It really felt as if it was tailored to my exact needs. I was impressed by the level of knowledge of my therapist, and she was able to communicate it very well to me.”

“The blend smelled lovely, and was comforting, warming, exactly what I needed for my calf strain.”

“After the massage, the pain had virtually disappeared. This was my first ever massage and I was really impressed by the results.”

“I feel relaxed, less tense, muscles feel freer, head and shoulders feel lighter, and I feel more accepting and patient”.

“It was a very holistic experience”.

“The whole experience has been wonderful. Liz has a very confident and soothing touch. Her touch is firm and vey enjoyable. The choice of music also reflects the calming atmosphere. The warmth of the soft towels and ambience of the room is another lovely touch.”

“I particularly enjoyed the back, head and foot massages. Afterwards I felt much more relaxed and very comforted, and I felt very comfortable and safe throughout the treatment. The communication during the consultation was good and I liked being involved in the choice of oils. It was relaxing, calming and made me feel happy.”

“I particularly liked the fact that you made sure I was warm, by covering the parts of me that weren’t being massaged, and that you discussed the choice of oils with me.”

"Thanks for all the wonderful relaxing aromatherapy sessions. it really has helped me a lot, especially with you being such a good listener as well. in the early days when I was really anxious and stressed, I probably really bent your ear, so thanks!"

"You really helped me with my leg - got me back to walking again!"

"That was a fascinating talk, thank you."

"I really enjoyed your talk, so interesting!"

I regularly give presentations to groups, clubs and societies, about aromatherapy and it's history, and how it can be used to help us in our daily lives. These talks are fun and informative and experiential, with demonstrations of essential oils and massage. The content and cost of the talk can be tailored to the needs of your group.

My next talk will be for the Afro Caribbean Society at University of York on 24th February.

If you would like me to come and talk to your group, please contact me for further details.
